hello! after recent update a day or two ago i saw after opening kate and ktorrent that menu bar was gone...and no icon to point to turn it back on --- now for example preferences of each program are unaccessible, nor i can close the program (pressing the X button is not the same as going to file/exit). i use project neon 5 nice day :) Simon ps. i couldnt find "menu bar" in bugs.kde.org..i hoep i filled this bug report under the correct topic/department,.. please feel free to move it to a more appropriate part of bug webpage if necessary :) thank you! Reproducible: Always
Try "Ctrl+M" In "kcmshell5 style", (or the resp. systemsettings page) how is the menubar configured? (In app, titlebar button, top screen, only export)
hello! thanks for fast reply... am.. ctrl+m --in kate worked (even though it wasnt visible it popped the message that menu bar wil lbe turned off ) and when i again typed ctrl+m - the menu bar appeared...even after closing & reopening kate, the menu bar persists... that is however not the case with ktorrent... tried the same procedure but the menu bar ... didnt show up... also posting the screenshots of your request... thank you! :) Simon

The setting's not there (apparently still not ported to KF5) Please notice that this has nothing to do with KWin, I got to guess around myself. -> Did ktorrent meanwhile perhaps buy into the chrome/firefox/... apporach to have the menu stashed in a toolbutton? You can also attach ~/.kde/share/config/ktorrentrc which might tell why the menubar is not shown.
Created attachment 89029 [details] /media/myname/.project-neon5/share/config/ktorrentrc thank you :-) s.
amm.. i was speaking too fast... i just opened again kate and the menu bar is again missing... ...ctrl+m brings it, but closing and reopening it doesnt bring menu bar back by itself......each time i have to manually type ctrl+m... im also going to send u katerc... maybe it helps thank you nice day :) s.

-> Please notice that this has nothing to do with KWin, I got to guess around myself. amm... please forgive me ..it seems i posted this bug report in the wrong section of the website... could you advice me to which kde component it would be better to attach this bug report? thank you..nice day :) Simon
From ktorrent: > menubar_hidden=false Is this a "fresh" KDE5 isntallation or do you re-use user configurations from a former KDE4 installation?
when i instaled kubuntu from project-neon5 live cd i also did a fresh ktorrent installation.... and i didnt use any old preferences.... so its a fresh kf5 installation - but -- till a few days ago menu bar was showing without problem (i instaleld pn5 and ktorrent in august), but after update (of not ktorrent coz its been 4.3.1 since i think 2011/2012) & reboot, the menu bar was gone... thank you nice day :) Simon
> MenuBar=Disabled Stunningly kate has the menubar disabled. I disabled the menubar here and afterwards wasn't able to re-enable the setting. Then I simply deleted the "MenuBar=Disabled" keys from the katerc (after I closed kate) and started kate -> menubar present as expected and remained so on subsequent restarts. I cannot say about ktorrent, but at least for kate, the issue seems that KMainWindow does not correctly revert the setting. -> I altered and re-assigned the bug. This happens on kdelibs from KDE SC4 here (as well) - i'm pretty sure your ktorrent is KDE4, but you should check the "about" of kate to determine which version you're actually using.
hello! kate 3.14.1 using kde 4.14.1 on project-neon5 (frameworks) ------------------- ktorrent 4.3.1 using kde 4.14.1 on project-neon5 (frameworks) ------------------- thank you! nice day Simon :)
ps. ..am..so this is a "confirmed" ? :) nice day...thank you Simon
Yes, "by me" - but it's not in kwin. I somehow failed to re-assign the bug, sorry for that.
