Description DrSlony 2014-10-01 05:55:25 UTC
The Display module in System Settings resets the calibration curves in my graphics card, which means every time after running it I have to re-run either dispcalGUI or argyll-dispwin -v -d1 -c -L
It should not do that without asking the user first.

Ideally, it should let the user associate an ICC profile with each display device so if we separately calibrate LVDS-0 and HDMI-0 then we could get correct color on each.

Reproducible: Always

Can you be more specific how to reproduce? Here, only when I click the Gamma section, the curves are reset.

Hi, thank you for looking into this.
I created an ICC profile using a hardware calibrator (Pantone Huey Pro) and the dispcalGUI software which then loads the calibration curve part of the ICC into the GPU. You do not see this in the gamma sliders in the Monitor Gamma tab http://i.imgur.com/wElTUxE.png but you see the effects very clearly. Simply launching the "Display" program http://i.imgur.com/IMDd9UZ.png (using Alt+F2 > display) resets the calibration curves in the GPU forcing me to re-apply them as described above if I want correct colors.

Are you really using KDE 4.14? What is your distribution? In the screen shot I see the old Display module, not KScreen. If your distribution did not replace the display module with kscreen, then all your recent reports are invalid.

Also, please try to reproduce using System Settings. It is possible that using "Alt+F2 display", the KGamma tab is preloaded, and responsible for the reset.

My distribution is Gentoo, as specified in the report.
Yes, 4.14.1. kde-misc/kscreen is not installed - I will install it now. 1.0.2.1 is the latest stable version, and 1.0.71 is the latest testing version I can install - how recent is that?
Comment 5 DrSlony 2014-10-01 20:28:54 UTC
I confirm that when launching via F2 the calibration curves are reset as soon as the Display window appears, but when launching from System Settings then they are not reset until I click on the Gamma icon.

kscreen 1.0.71 is a development release, but should work. The last stable release is 1.0.5, while 1.0.2 is old and has several bugs.

If you have re-tested the other bugs (which I already reassigned to kscreen), please add comments there.

Thanks for confirming that kgamma is the culprit, resolving accordingly.

I went with kscreen-1.0.71 and libkscreen-1.0.5. So far so good, and no gamma resetting, so this bug report is not applicable to kscreen which seems to work fine so far. I have not tested the TV yet - I will update my reports as soon as I do (later today/tomorrow). Thank you!
