Description simonlang1984 2014-09-21 08:50:08 UTC
i have used the roboto font since weeks without any problem, but since today strange thing happens.
despite the setting on the font still being regular, it get's bolded after a few minutes of system usage.
i have tried to remove the fonts, reinstalled them, resetted the font cache, logout, login, nothing seems to help.

no matter if i download the fonts-roboto package or install the font manually from a website.

this does not happen with the oxygen font for example.

please fix this as i really want to use roboto font. the problem is there in kubuntu 14.04.1 but not in kde project neon for example, where i am using the same font.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. set font to roboto regular
2. do some work
3. see how it turns "bold" in the startmenu, in dolphin, etc....

Expected Results:
font should stay regular

So there is some software running in the background, which changes the settings. Please try to find out which process is responsible. If this is the kded4 process, you could find out which kded module is responsible by following the steps described at http://kdepepo.wordpress.com/2011/05/11/troubleshooting-kded4-bugs/

Additionally, please check if this happens with any distribution, or is limited to Ubuntu.

@Christoph Feck

i have now again uninstalled the fonts. switched to oxygen. installed only roboto regular.
switched ot it, log out , log in , ran only firefox, worked. started kmail, quassel, dolphin, choqok, works.
installed roboto medium. log out, log in again, no change.
however i notice that now i have in fonts not only roboto regular and medium (as installed) but also roboto bold. no idea why, i have not installed it.

so far the problem does not reoccur, maybe installing all roboto fonts (which also includes roboto bold) did mess up with the settings, as roboto bold seems to be installed even when only chosing roboto medium.

that's all i could reproduce so far. maybe it helps...

since today, the problem is back again.
this is horrible!

I'm facing the same problem as well. One workaround is to delete the bold fonts.

on my desktop, i have reproduced the fact that this relates to ConkyManager, which, when loaded, automatically installs all the roboto fonts, without asking for further confirmation. i suspect it might be because the fonts are in one of my countless conky themes (arround 150)).
this happens, even if i remove the roboto font completely before.
still weird that this happens as font installations usually should request the superuser pw ...
i can clearly reproduce it being only after i launch conkymanager ...

however talking to another user he said he faces the same problem without even using conky/conky manager.

Is this still happening in Plasma 5.19 or a similarly recent version?
