Description Bernd 2014-09-14 22:29:32 UTC
desktop effects -> advanced -> keep window thumbnails -> "always (Breaks minimization)"

 is translates as

"Immer (Verhindert Ressourcen-Minimierung)"

This is grossly misleading, this does not refer to "Ressources", this affects (or prevents) the minimization of the window itself, it changes behavior. It should be translated as "Immer (Verhindert Fenster-Minimierung)"

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. switch language to DE (German)
2. Go to desktop effects -> advanced and look at the dropdown "keep window thumbnails"
3. Observe the misleading translation "Verhindert Ressourcen-Minimierung"

Actual Results:
I have just spent some time hunting a strange "bug" where my program did not receive any window-state notifications on minimize/maximize. I finally found this setting to be the reason. From the wording "Verhindert Resourcem-Minimierung" it initially appeared to me to refer to harmless things like memory consumption when I activated. Thats why I did not immediately remember having any setting activated that would break **window** minimization itself.

After finding this seemingly not so obvious setting to be the reason for my "bug" I wanted to document it for other users, switched language to english and made a screenshot and suddenly the option was labeled crystal clear and unmistakably: "breaks minimization!"

Expected Results:
Please change translation to "Immer (Verhindert Fenster-Minimierung)" because thats what actually happens when this is active: the windows are actually not minimized at all anymore, they are just moved to an invisible plane while continuing to be open, thats why they never receive any state change signals when minimizing.

The english wording describes this crystal clear and leaves no doubt about what actually happens: "breaks minimization" (i. e. something will not work anymore (broken) when you activate this)

The German wording merely sounds like it would just consume more resources which may seems harmless or even irrelevant for people with powerful machines but this is actually not the case, it really entirely disables a feature, it changes (breaks) behavior and affects compatibility with some applications that rely on it (for example Lazarus-IDE which will not minimize its tool windows anymore when the main window is minimized because it just can't detect this anymore).

The German translation of this option should try to communicate this as clearly as the English version already does.

Oder einfach "Immer (Verhindert Minimierung)". Denn Programmfenster sind so ziemlich das Einzige, was bei einer Desktop-Oberfläche minimiert und maximiert werden kann.
