Description Victor Porton 2014-09-14 19:44:41 UTC
Okular starts search in a PDF document I view from the last search position, even if "From current page" checkbox in the Options menu is checked on.

I need a way to position search to a certain page before starting search. And now this feature does not work!

Reproducible: Always

That's the specified behaviour, if you want to start a new search cancel your old one with Esc.
Comment 2 Victor Porton 2014-09-16 15:57:46 UTC
Closing and reopening search panel does not help! It starts from the beginning of the document anyway, ever if "From current page" checkbox is on.

Please give a *very* detailed step by step guide of how to reproduce what you mean.
Comment 4 Victor Porton 2014-09-16 18:09:25 UTC
1. Open http://www.abax.se/content/download/137/862/file/example.pdf with Okular.

2. Turn on "From current page" if not yet turned on.

3. Search for the word "require".

4. Press "Next" and go to the next occurrence of this word.

5. Close the search pane.

6. Move to the beginning of the document.

7. Search for require again.

The found "require" is not the first occurrence in the document.

Yep, you have not cancelled the search so it will continue, you have to press esc with the search panel closed to cancel the previous search (as i mentioned already)

By the way next time you do some detailed steps, give them better detailed, after 1 i can't do 2, you have to say you oepn the search pane, how do you do that, ctrl+f, menu, etc. That is what people want when asking for detailed instructions
Comment 6 Victor Porton 2014-09-16 18:26:02 UTC
Pressing Esc two times (to close the search pane first and to reset to search from current page or start of document) is certainly counter-intuitive (how can I guess that I need to press Esd twice?)

Please make a more clear interface.

If you want to report a wish to make searching better you're happy to propose a suggestion of workflow that makes you happy and we will evaluate it. Meanwhile this bug with the description "search from current page does not work" it's resolved, since it works.

Please change behavior such that, while searching, when I scroll to new page then hit up/down arrow in search pane, with option - from current page checked, the search will start from current page and not last search. Would also like to see 'current page' changed to 'current page view' for clarity. I'm going to forget to hit esc and then esc again to reset search and will get frustrated!
