Debian updated recently to KDE 4.14 (from KDE 4.13) and during that time also updated akonadi to 1.13 (from 1.12.1). After this update the communication with exchange servers (provided by hostedexchange.com) seems to be broken. Sometimes I get new messages after the restart of the system (or akonadi) but during a normal run (even when trying to sync a folder) I cannot get new messages at all. I would also say that it downloads all my messages again after a system start (at least this is what happened right now and a co-worker also told me that he sees this all the time). Also changing the state of a mail (read -> unread) doesn't seem to change it on the server. The account is a disconnected imap and I can see all changes on my imap folder in akonadiconsole but not on the server. The only communication with the server is following (even trying to get new messages/change messages/....): SERVER: * OK The Microsoft Exchange IMAP4 service is ready. Also pressing the "Synchronize Folder" in akonadi for the INBOX of this account, or check mail in kmail2 for this account, or "Update Folder" on this account's INBOX in kmail2 doesn't create any output in the akonadiconsole debug output. Additional info: I am also using some dovecot IMAP servers with the same client. And the akonadi_imap_resource doesn't seem to have any problem with them. I can communicate with the dovecot servers normally even when the akonadi_imap_resource communicating with the exchange server became "very stupid"
I'm experiencing quite same since upgrade, the only difference is the non-working server type. It's courier instead of exchange, while dovecot works fine. But I don't see relation between server software and our problem. It's more likely the configuration. If I start akonadi in console, I see the this on mail check: akonadi_imap_resource_2(24516) RetrieveItemsTask::onFinalSelectDone: Detected inconsistency in local cache, we're missing some messages. Maybe there are some new code which doesn't handle this case well?
Oh, I forgot to mention that I don't have any new message since upgrade. Akonadi doesn't want download on startup, nor later.
At least I could workaround a little bit for me. I've used the exchange web frontend to remove all new messages from this account (5000 mails) because they would have been moved by a client filter to a different folder. So I was able to use this account for a limited time. After a while the connection was again reset by the server and then the akonadi resource was "very stupid" again. Only killing (SIGTERM) the process for this imap resource made it possible to use it again. Even using the "restart resource" functionality in akonadiconsole did not work. Also setting the resource offline+online again did not work. Now it received two mails again and I am only waiting until the resource goes back into the "very stupid" mode

Same here (Archlinux with KDE 4.14) but with one of three gmail account akonadi retrieve mail only at startup or after akonadi server restart. Hello! I just upgraded akonadi today (to version 1.14.0-1.4 in opensuse) and now everything is going well again. Thanks for the fix.
Still the same problem here in Debian. The stuff mentioned by the other posters may be complete unrelated to this problem
Btw. akonadi 1.14.0 cannot be downloaded from the source download directory nor is there a git tag in the repo
Even opensuse doesn't have this version: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/openSUSE:Factory/akonadi-runtime (the current version is 1.13.0) Where did you get that 1.14.0-1.4?
This seems to be a duplicate of #339393.
Andre, i don't think this could be a duplicate of #339393 . This issue happens for me with a yahoo account where i have less than 30 mails / 1 megabyte in total. It never ever happens to me with Gmail or with my own Dovecot servers, but it happens reliably over and over again with Yahoo mail. Kmail "hangs" (just the blue blank background waiting for message content) until I restart akonadi with "akonadictl restart" then everything works fine for a few hours again. Debian versions akonadi-server 1.13.0-2, kmail 4:4.14.1-1 here.

Is there any progress in this issue? I have the same troubles - after initial synchronizatoin no new messages are comming. In Akonadi console I can see a lot of increasing entries like this: Akonadi::CollectionFetchJob Waiting Collection Id 15 There're more of them, increasing amount in time. Nothing happens, until I restart akonadi - then it works again for a short while...
This bug has never been confirmed for a KDE PIM version that is based on KDE Frameworks (5.x). Those versions differ significantly from the old 4.x series. Therefore, I plan to close it in around two or three months. In the meantime, it is set to WAITINGFORINFO to give reporters the oportunity to check if it is still valid. As soon as someone confirms it for a recent version (at least 5.1, ideally even more recent), I'll gladly reopen it. Please understand that we lack the manpower to triage bugs reported for versions almost two years beyond their end of life.
Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.1 aka 15.12; preferably much more recent), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
