When importing images sometimes their is a problem and the camera image is not copied over correctly. May be it's a failing drive or buggy network connection.

Digikam should offer the ability to, once imported, compare the imported image file with the original camera file to confirm the copy operation was successful. 

Various options could be used including doing md5 sums of the files, just look at file size, just looking at first and last bytes. And again, various follow on operations could be offered, re-attempt to download, delete the file from the camera only after confirmation of successful transfer, etc..
