Description Gandalf Lechner 2014-09-02 19:25:26 UTC
First of all, I hope I am reporting this in the right place - if not, please relocate or advise.

My problem is that when using bluetooth speakers (which work fine), adjusting the overall volume seems to still change the volume of the internal speakers of my laptop and has thus no effect on the volume played by the bluetooth speaker. I have to use the buttons on the speaker or application specific sliders, like the volume control in amarok, to get any effect. In particular, the multimedia keys I usually and most conveniently use for adjusting the volume are not automatically assigned to the bluetooth speaker. Since I configured them as the output for all sound, this would be the expected behavior. Also in kmix I only have a slider "internal audio" without effect on the bluetooth speaker.

In case some information on my system is helpful, here it is: Kubuntu 14.04, KDE 4.14.0, Laptop is Dell XPS Developer Edition, and speakers Bose Soundlink III.

Reproducible: Always

I just wanted to ask if this bug is likely to get addressed in a new version of KDE. Or am I the only one experiencing this?

Kmix in plasma 5 still has this problem: not automatically switch its master channel to bluetooth speaker. You can *workaround* by re-assign the master channel of Kmix (right click on the speaker icon then "Select the master channel...")

For me, this one is fixed and working fine now, using kubuntu 15.10. You set the bluetooth speaker to highest priority in system settings, and once it connects, sound swichtches to that speaker, with the volume keys now adjusting the volume of the bluetooth speaker.

I confirm that this is working properly now, also using Fedora 24 and KDE 5.7.5. First it is necessary to set the priority of the bluetooth device in the multimedia settings. Then the keyboard volume control buttons & the system tray volume control adjusts the volume of the bluetooth playback device.

From my testing in 18.04, kmix does not follow the device preference set in the Multimedia KCM.

As a workaround, it is possible to manually set the master channel to the bluetooth headphones once paired. kmix will fallback to the internal mixer if the headphones are disconnected, then switch back to the headphones when they're connected again. I do fear that only works for a single device, what happens if I want to set multiple devices (bluetooth > hdmi > internal)?

Should we introduce a Audio Playback > Control category, like we have a Audio Recording > Control one? Should kmix honor such a setting?
