I run two instances of claws-mail on different desktops. Normally, its notification icons in the tray present changes (NewMail, UnreadMail, AllRead) instantaneously as the changes occur. After some time (up to about a week), the notifications switch from instant updates to updates only when the mouse is leaving/entering claws-mail window, or sometimes only when switching desktops. No idea what other symptoms to look for... other icons don't change normally. Oh... not sure if it happens at the same moment; but clock updates also stop (turned on seconds to help watch for this) until I click on the clock, or move the mouse in/out of the clock area to force updates. I've seen the clock stay stalled over an hour. Logging out/in resolves this for a while. Hmmm... just struck me that bug 338329 could be related... it too could be blocked by the same thing that blocks the instant updates... dbus? I'd be happy to provide any new info if someone could give me a clue what to look for, or what to attach strace, gdb, other to...
Looks like no interest. Just had to restart my KDE desktop again due to lack of response: - claws-mail tray icon not updated unless I switch desktops - gkrellm stalls; only updates when mouse enters/leaves window - gkrellm restart required ~weekly - firefox today: one (of 16) window is S..........L...........O..........W.......... - some screen updates occur if I switch windows or desktops. Window updates took 10+ minutes; other FF windows OK. Logout/login clears these problems for another week or more...
