I refreshed my packages and installed following debuginfo packages after a crash (digikam started once and "faded" without crash report after some seconds, now it crashes with every call) libkdepimlibs4-debuginfo-4.13.3-2.1.x86_64 libgstreamer-0_10-0-debuginfo-0.10.36-14.36.x86_64 libkde4-debuginfo-4.13.3-2.1.x86_64 digikam-debuginfo-4.1.0-15.3.x86_64 Assistant is still reporting that he can't find the necessary packages. Also Version 4.2 crashes. After reboot digikam starts but does not display any picture in the GUI. After some seconds digikam fades / dies without calling the bug report assistant. The next time digikam crashes without displaying the GUI but the bug report assistant is called. Bug report assistent says that the data is useless and it can't find anny debug pacckages.
Thomas, we cannot help you without a backtrace, sorry. Please ask for support in a forum of your distribution. Try pasting the incomplete backtrace here, or try valgrind or gdb as described in the link from comment #2. You could also try reproducing on a freshly created user account to rule out bad configuration files.

Hello, I don't get anny baqcktrace. Digikam just dies without saying good bye. After some updates I have now digikam-4.2.0-16.6.x86_64 but ist ist more ore less the same. Starting, doing next to nothing. No pictures in the preview window and than it dies. Using Gwenview and Aftershot instead and getting used to it. Best regards Thomas

Please install the debuginfo packages for phonon and phonon-backend-gstreamer
The crash is indeed caused by the phonon/gstreamer backend. Reassigning back. Please install newest versions of gstreamer 0.10, phonon, and phonon backends from backport repositories. You could also try switching to phonon/VLC backend.
Updated / installed phonon/gstreamer backend and some more. Can't provide a backtrace because digikam doesn't crash anymore. digikam-4.2.0-16.9.x86_64 Thanks!
Not reproducible since digiKam use QtAv and ffmpeg to handle video files.
