In attempting to test a KDE issue (reported at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=337631), changed display size from 1920x1080 to 1024x768. This returned a screen apparently sized as requested; but non-responsive: - no way to affect any change to try to restore the original setting - no taskbar - no response to arrow keys - no response to mouse Restored by switching to tty2 and editing .kde4/share/apps/kscreen/91420cf41d143c6241f6a80bf5a53b06 to restore the original size and restarting KDE via Ctrl+Alt+Bkspc This occurred on a new Dell M6800 with 2 video cards: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Dell Device 05cd Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx+ Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- INTx- Latency: 0 Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 43 Region 0: Memory at f5800000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4M] Region 2: Memory at d0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M] Region 4: I/O ports at f000 [size=64] Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled] Capabilities: [90] MSI: Enable+ Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit- Address: fee1000c Data: 41c1 Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2 Flags: PMEClk- DSI+ D1- D2- AuxCurrent=0mA PME(D0-,D1-,D2-,D3hot-,D3cold-) Status: D0 NoSoftRst- PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME- Capabilities: [a4] PCI Advanced Features AFCap: TP+ FLR+ AFCtrl: FLR- AFStatus: TP- Kernel driver in use: i915 Kernel modules: i915 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. Sounds more like a KWin bug to me, can you reproduce this with disabled KWin compositing (Alt+Shift+F12) ?
Closing. Lost interest.
