When talking with Kanotix developers, it was suggested that they could include KDE Partition Manager in their apps menu, and they talked about two issues that made them use Gparted instead. This is the first (of two issues): a) With KDE Partition Manager, when you change a partition filesystem, then the id is not changed. Reproducible: Always
Note: The second issue reported by Kanotix developers can be found in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=337350
I just tried this with Gparted and partition id is also not changed, so reason a) is not valid to choose gparted over kde partition manager. The second issue is fixed now. Of course there might be other reason to choose gparted over partition manager... I don't think libparted exposes any way to change partition id. You have to delete and recreate the whole partition, not just file system to have a correct id.
Thank you for the bug report. As this report hasn't seen any changes in 5 years or more, we ask if you can please confirm that the issue still persists. If this bug is no longer persisting or relevant please change the status to resolved.

It probably still is. But in my opinion is quite low priority. I wouldn't oppose patches if somebody wishes to contribute. If you want new id you can always delete and recreate partition instead of reformatting.
