Description Rafael Linux User 2014-06-27 08:58:05 UTC
I'm a KDE user and consider that there is no coherence thru KDE and Krita image formats. Krita work natively with .KRA files and .ORA, a open format. However, Digikam and Gwenview are not showing those type of file formats. Even forcing Digikam to show .ORA and .KRA files, it only show thumbnails, not metadata (image canvas size, etc) and even if you try to "see" content (like with other image file format) you will not get any image.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try to see any .ORA or .KRA image file format in Digikam or Gwenview

Actual Results:
You can't see that images listed as thumbnails in those programs

Expected Results:
To see listed ORA and KRA images in Digikam and Gwenview as any other image file format.

XCF files (GIMP format) are listed and showed without any problem, even exist a gimp-thumbnailer complement, even when GIMP is not a native QT-KDE application. So, why is not implemented the same way KDE for Krita formats? (I think .ORA format should be implemented time ago, cause is long time with us).

There are two things here, neither of them a kioslave:

* thumbnailer
* kimgio plugins

In the current development version, Krita includes both thumbnailers for ora and kra files as well as kimgio plugins for ora and kra. The thumbnailers have been around foreever, the kimgio plugins are new in the current development version.

Thank you for your correction. I didn't know that was not kioslave
related. Anyway, as you said, the thumbnailers are working time ago, so,
why are not showing those formats Digikam and Gwenview? As you well know,
ORA format is near four years old, so I think image viewers like Gwenview
and Digikam (among other) should consider to show them properly, as any
other image file (like they do with XCF files).

Maybe I should create a new thread for Digikam and Gwenview, but I didn't
know wha was the reason to not get it implemented time ago this feature,
and I was guessing it was a KDE issue.

The thumbnailers really should work, if you have installed krita -- I'm not sure what's up there.

Yes. Thumbnailers work fine. That's not the question. Is about to see
the content.
