it would be nice to have a filter search bar in the layer pane, so you can filter layers by name. Reproducible: Always
I can see this becoming a problem by obscuring layers when the filter is set. As long as the GUI shows a clear sign to the user that a filter is active it should be no problem.
Hi, I'm a user of short layer stack I woudn't need it personnaly, but I don't oppose. I'm greedy for vertical space on the docker GUI, and I wouldn't like a feature like this to make the layer docker take more vertical room on screen. A little search icon next the blending mode would be Ok.

Created attachment 101911 [details] Search layer text box Search by layer's name using the search layer text box in the Layer Stack panel. The found layers are highlighted.
One possibility would be only to highlight the found layers, the jump from one found layer to another being performed by the small previous/next arrows. Another possibility could be to hide the layers which don't match the search string. This option could be put in the Filter drop-down.
@Kaddy: Your mockup picture add a permanent search bar on top of the layer-docker taking a new row of GUI (so more vertical space). Can this search bar be inside the 'Filter button' ( drop down menu ) ?

Well, putting it inside the 'Filter' button is another possibility, but it requires an additional click for every single search you perform. A third possibility (see the file attached) is to put the search box on the same row with the Blending Mode drop-down. A different approach could also be to display only temporary the search box when using a shortcut like Ctrl+F. In the end, it is up to the developers what method they will chose. IMHO, when working with dozens of layers, it is irrelevant if you see 119 or 120 layers.
@Kaddy: I like your mockup idea #2 in https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=101988
We have to take care, though, that we don't make the layer box forced wide again.
