Currently, the activity switcher uses an "X" (close icon) to stop/suspend activities. The "X" is usually more associated with dismissing information/applications/… A "stop" or "pause" icon would represent stopping an activity IMHO better.
I agree. Using the "X" icon conveys the meaning of deleting the activity instead of simply stopping it.
I have nothing against replacing the icon. But I disagree that X means deletion. When you press X on an application or on a plasma applet, are you deleting it or just removing from the list of currently running ones?
I do agree with Ivan that X doesn't strictly mean deletion, though a pause or stop icon does seem like it might be a slightly better metaphor in this instance.
This discussion doesn't seem to go forward, a decision should be taken.
Ivan as maintainer can you make a decision please. This should be either confirmed or closed.
In lieu of a maintainer I'm confirming this as it sounds that's what Andrew is leaning towards.
Lets close this soon. We have the following options now: - process-stop (currently used) - media-playback-stop - media-playback-pause - edit-delete (used to delete a stopped activity) The currently used icon (process-stop) for some reason shows an (X) even if breeze defines it to be a minus symbol in a circle, painted red. The media-playback-stop seems like a good alternative, but it does not convey that it is a bit destructive operation - it would be nice if we had a red version of it. I don't like media-playback-pause for this.
p.s. system-suspend seems like a nice one as well.
The current icon ("stop-sign like") looks good to me - closing this bug.
