Description Radu 2014-06-11 19:35:44 UTC
I get the output below when launching KMPlayer from a terminal emulator:

$ kmplayer
KGlobal::locale(): Warning your global KLocale is being recreated with a valid main component instead of a fake component, this usually means you tried to call i18n related functions before your main component was created. You should not do that since it most likely will not work

The X Error is repeated about 50 times.
My KDE desktop effects seem to disappear while KMPLayer is on. KMPLayer won't play any video.
Also, Krusader crashes when attempting to view a video or sound file with KrViewer (using F3 key).

I'm using Kubuntu 14.04 with kernel 3.13.0-29-lowlatency and Nvidia 331.67 video drivers and Xorg 1.15.1

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open kmplayer in a terminal emulator
Actual Results:
KDE Desktop Effects disappear; KMPlayer won't play any video (audio will work, though)

Expected Results:
I expected KMPlayer to work, KDE Desktop Effects to work, too
Also, I expected Krusader not to crash while viewing/listening to a multimedia file with F3

This is the first bug I submit; I'll try to provide any other information requested, if you tell me what it's needed.

You may have to select another video/audio output, see config dialog.
I would select XVideo and pulse as first attempt. Try using the mplayer player. You can try out some variations by starting mplayer from the command line, eg.

mplayer -vo xv -ao pulse movie-file

see `mplayer -vo help` and `mplayer -ao help` how these outputs are called on the mplayer commandline.

I've tried to select other video and audio outputs, but that didn't helped at all.
mplayer works just fine, it's KMPlayer that doesn't; I know this is odd, but I play my media from Krusader with the built-in Krviewer, which uses the Konqueror built-in multimedia player, which is Kmplayer.
I've tried to recompile KMPlayer from source, same errors as described in the 1st post:
* from term emulator, KDE Plasma effects dissapear , X Error as output, won't play anything, the startup/shutdown animation don't show;
* from Konqueror, just black screen, won't play anything;
* from Krusader/Krwiever - crash.

Indeed odd, also never read a report before like that.
When you run top simultaneously, do you see an excessive memory usage by kmplayer? Could maybe the start-up animations. But running `kmplayer movie-file` should skip any animations, likewise for the kmplayer plugin.
You could disable cairo support when you recompile kmplayer, maybe easiest is to uninstall cairo-dev when creating the cmake files.
