Description Richard Lloyd-Jones 2014-06-11 13:54:05 UTC
When I reset default screen resolution from 1360x768 (auto) to 1024x 768. This changed screen resolution holds for current session whilst using PC. When I restart my PC in a new session, the screen resolution goes back to the default setting.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Change screen resolution from default setting

2.Confirm changed screen resolution size to 1024x768

3.Click set as default icon and receive new default setting confirmation.

Actual Results:
When I use my PC on a subsequent occasion, my screen resolution goes back to its default setting as I have mentioned above.

Expected Results:
New screen resolution should have been held at 1024x768 when I restarted my PC.

Using PC Linux 2014.05 operating system with current updates (including today's updates) KDE Development Platform 4.12.3., Linux Kernel 3.12.18

Hello again

I have now solved this problem by changing the Refresh instruction relating to Screen Resolution from Auto to 70Hz. Now my changed screen resolution is held when I switch my PC off and restart a new session.

I am sorry for contacting you unnecessarily. I am fairly new to KDE and PC Linux OS and have a lot to learn!

Best wishes

Hello

The original problem with my screen resolution has come again today as I originally stated yesterday. The solution that I found yesterday does not work today. I have restarted my PC several times today but when I change my screen resolution does not hold from the previous session when I restart my PC.

I should appreciate any help with this issue.

Thanks.

Are you using kscreen or (old) krandr to configure screen resolution?

Hello Christoph Feck

Thanks for your response of yesterday.

I checked whether Kscreen was installed on my PC through the Synaptic Package Manager. It was not, so I installed Kscreen onto my PC. When change my screen resolution this now holds when I restart my PC into a new session. I could not readily otherwise find out whether Kscreen or krandr was installed on my PC by looking at About Us section relating to Icon View.

Should I suggest to PC Linux OS that Kscreen should be installed as standard on their KDE Desktop in the future? Or will they be sent a copy of this Bug Report?

Many thanks for your help.

Best wishes

Yes, please report this to the bug tracker of your distribution. Starting with version 4.11, kscreen is the recommended way to configure screens.
