Hi, which Kubuntu and Plasma NM versions do you use? The bug report says you use dsl connection. Is it a system or user connection? Can you also send me the NetworkManager log so I can take a look at what is happening when NetworkManager starts?
It is the neweset Kubuntu 14.04 installed from DVD. DSL with Cable. Network Log...? I don't know.
Sorry, but I do not use Kubuntu, I do not know which Plasma NM comes in Kubuntu's DVD. DSL and cable modem are two different technologies to access Internet, do you really use DSL? I really need to know that to figure out what the problem may be. If it is DSL then it will be more difficult to reproduce the problem since I do not have any access to a DSL provider. The NetworkManager's log would really help in this regard. Usually it is stored in /var/log/messages file. Can you compress and send that file to my e-mail (lamarque@kde.org)?
Kubuntu 14.04 has the new plasma-nm applet. Can you provide NM's log as Lamarque suggested?
Sorry, but the folder/file "messages" does not exist in /var/log/
"cat /var/log/syslog | grep NetworkManager" should give you NM's log.

Well, all connection attempts registered in the log were successful. Can you send me the log right after you reproduce this problem? Also send me the output of the commands below so I can take a look at how is your network configuration when the problem happen: ip addr ip route cat /etc/resolv.conf If you prefer you can send me the output in a private e-mail.

I think I noticed similar problem several times (Kubuntu 14.04, KDE 4.13.2, kernel 3.13.0-52-generic ) . I use ethernet connection (cable, it usually connects me automatically even after new system install, no settings required, I guess it is called DHCP). Sometimes when I log in it just doesn't work. See attached screenshot: "no ethernet connection" In 12.04 there was an option for it: enable networking https://dot.kde.org/sites/dot.kde.org/files/network-management-plasmoid.png Sometimes in 12.04 when I started system and I was disconnected it was enough to uncheck and check the option and I was automatically connected. Now in 14.04 I can't see this option. Widget only shows active connections and when it list connection there is an option to disconnect. But in case I login to system and there is no active connection enable networking option is not visible. Pressing on a green icon doesn't work. So I need to reboot. Only after system restart it works again automatically. Even when I go into connections editor and choose cable connections it doesn't work. Only system restart makes it work again. If you tell me how, next time I will look for some logs.
Ok. Obviously I missed that you already wrote how to find logs. I will do that next time problem appears and sent it to you referring to this bug.
Apache, you are using an old Plasma NM version that is not maintained anymore. Can you install a newer version and test if the problem still persists? Current Plasma NM version is 0.9.3.5.
Closing, there won't be any new release of plasma-nm for KDE 4. Switch please to Plasma 5 and re-open this bug if your problem persists.
