Description Stefan Weigert 2014-05-21 08:33:57 UTC
I would like to turn on background transparancy in my profile but if I do so, a yellow label pops up below the color-scheme selection list: "Konsole was started before desktop effects were enabled. You need to restart Konsole to see transparent background."

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use project-neon daily
2. Start new project neon session
3. Launch Konsole
4. Click on "Edit Profile"
5. Goto "Appearence" tab
6. Select a color-scheme
7. Click "Edit"
8. Choose transparency-value above 0%

Actual Results:
Label appears and transparancy is not enabled

Expected Results:
No warning and background transparancy

I tried this with Kwin GLX backend, EGL backend and OpenGL versions 2 and 3.1. Neither worked. Transparency when moving windows is working, though - it doesn't seem to be a general compositing problem.

I have the exact same issue. I'm using KDE Plasma: 5.7.3, KDE Frameworks: 5.25.0, and QT: 5.7.0.

After updating to 16.08.0 it appears that transparent background no longer works.

Regarding new posts in this old bugreport: The recent (as in august 2016) regression is already fixed on master branch: See https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=366368

Except working transparent backgrounds again in the next bugfix patch.

I'll close this old bug report in order to limit the confusion.
