Description Sven Langkamp 2014-05-15 14:57:33 UTC
After clicking on of the try icons the panel show up and on the left there are icons for other entries, but it shows only the hidden ones. For example I can get to Battery and Brightness, but not back to Devices.

Reproducible: Always

Screenshot

The screenshot show that on the left side there are only two icons for notifications and battery and brightness but network and devices are not shown.

From Neon5 beta

There can be only one icon instantiated at the moment.
but the devices one in the visible part is still functional

Since only the hidden icons are shown in the Status and Notifications sidebar, might it make sense to not show the sidebar when a visible icon in the status area is selected? (Show the sidebar when the "^" icon or notifications bubble is selected?)

I confess there's a little disconnect for me when I click a visible status icon and see those unselected icons in the sidebar; they're entirely unrelated to what's visible in the content area. Those visible sidebar icons with nothing selected sorta muddles the selection model for that content area, which actually responded to the icon selection in the status area in the panel. I seem to experience a little less disconnect when I click the "^" or notifications bubble. I think it's because in these cases (if remember correctly) an icon in that sidebar will be selected and what's in the content area corresponds to that selected icon.

Just an idea...

Dave has a sexy plan. Assigning to me and trying.
Comment 5 David Edmundson 2014-06-23 14:31:19 UTC
Update:
I have it showing items in both places.

Bug list that I don't know how to solve:
 - the size will always the same as in the compact representation.
 - right clicking in the proxied plasmoid, shows the context menu on the original plasmoid as showMenu(x,y) is relative
Comment 6 Andrew Lake 2014-06-24 22:31:29 UTC
Is there any way to consume/reject click events just on the proxied plasmoid?

This issue was discussed briefly on a thread on the VDG forum - we decided to file a 'Wishlist' bug to request the removal of the vertical sidebar from the left side of the System & Notifications pane (that pops up above the System tray) when an icon that's visible in the system tray is clicked on to reduce needless clutter. See the screenshot 'System_tray_wishlist_suggestion.png' I've attached for details (in the right hand screenshot, the order of the System tray icons has been changed accidentally - please ignore this) .

This suggestion has been approved by both Colomar and alake.

The behaviour of the S&N pane when the arrow in the System tray to show the Hidden icons is clicked, should stay exactly as it is now. The link to the thread is:
https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=285&t=122794&sid=5d2a526b8f6146b1f52f0c75b7600871
Note that several suggestions were made in that thread, but this request is for removal of the S&N sidebar when a visible System tray icon is clicked ONLY and nothing else.

Only show the list of hidden system tray items when a hidden item is expanded

As discussed on the forums

We said we'd try it for a while and get some real world feedback.
