If an the current window/tab is empty because the last open operation failed, and then a new document is opened, this new document is opened in a new window/tab, not in the existing one.

Jonathan any chance we can get a fix for this for 4.14.0 (tagging in one week)?

I can no longer reproduce this on 

Operating System: Manjaro Linux 
KDE Plasma Version: 5.17.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0


Steps to reproduce:
1) Open a valid PDF
2) Open a faulty PDF, which creates an empty tab
3) Focus the empty tab
4) Open another valid PDF

4) will be opened in the empty tab of 3)
