Description Rafael Linux User 2014-05-02 13:28:02 UTC
When Okular open a PDF form, it show it right. But when you enter in "Show form", text font size on fillable fields changes, so you can enter even more text that in the final form. When you switch to "Hide form", filled fields recover their font correct size, and you notice that you need to fix most of them caused the text you put in them is larger than the size of the fields.

Even control check buttons are showed badly.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open a PDF form
2.Click on "Show form".
3. Enter text in text fields
4. Click on "Hide form". You'll see that fonts size on form fields is changed

Actual Results:
Is difficult to fill a form with Okular.

Expected Results:
Form aspect should not change on switching from "Show" to "Hide" form.

To be honest do not see this being a bug, the edit mode is for editing, so it doesn't need to be pretty, but if someone has time to make this bug away we can have a look at the patches.
Comment 2 Rafael 2014-05-03 18:05:22 UTC
Well, it's not intended to be pretty, but accesibilty/usability related. I can fill a field form without problems, but when I print it, most of text dissapear, cause when I fill the field, as it had a font smaller, it let me fill more text than is showed when not in "Show form" mode. Even legibility is difficult in form fields when in "Show form".

You'll have to give me some examples, everything looks fine here.

Okular vs embebbed PDF chrome reader - filling form

In this one, you can see a lot of things:
- Legibility: Is almost unreadable the text filled in form fields
- Tags near selection buttons: Buttons for selection of the user are showed with Javascript tags next to them and not right allocated (centered on the mark place)

Okular vs embebbed PDF chrome reader - form filled (hidden form)

When not in "Show form", text entered in Okular is cropped, cause user usually rely on what he is seeing. If what I can type fits in the form field, I expect it will be what I'll get when not in "Show form".

I disagree that we need to mimic exact text size in editing vs viewing mode. So I am closing this bug.

On the other hand, yes the radio buttons seem like should not have the text shown, please open a new bug about that.

I don't claim to be ungrateful, but clearly, you are not going to meet usability.
I only to make you understand some people are uncomfortable with some problems with Okular. They come from propietary but free PDF readers and I always prefer to recommend GNU/GPL alternatives. But as a result of your disagreement, I must recommend them to install some multiplatform well know propietary alternatives or to use Chrome and Firefox as PDF readers, cause they are doing a better job on editing PDF forms than Okular or Evince. I can't do more as a user that try to expand GNU/GPL software.

Thank you anyway

Rafael, I think your problem with form text being truncated may be better covered by Bug 246196.
Comment 12 Rafael 2014-08-23 23:18:14 UTC
I don't think so. Anyway, as you can read:

"Albert Astals Cid 2014-06-17 21:35:17 UTC

so this bug is closed and my point of view is not considered to be right. So I'll not try to make more accesible Okular by commenting this "issue" in the future.
