Description Antonio Rojas 2014-05-02 10:13:58 UTC
There is a "Mail filter agent" progress bar that stays forever at 0% in the status bar. I don't have any filters configured in kmail.

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Laurent Montel 2014-05-02 12:41:12 UTC
I never tested it.
Ok I will do.

I have the same problem in Mageia-5, KMail 4.14.5

> I don't have any filters configured in kmail.

I do, but sometimes no filtering takes place when it should.
Comment 3 Michael D 2017-02-09 09:46:38 UTC
I have the same problem on KDE Neon User Edition, Kmail2 5.4.1. I notice the plugin settings section, there is no filter plugin. I also noticed that going to Settings --> Configure Filters shows some filter, "<unknown>", that gets created even after I delete it. If one deletes it, the filter agent progress shows 100%. So that fixes it, except there is something that keeps creating this annoying filter.
Comment 4 Maurice Batey 2017-02-09 14:25:45 UTC
Still with Kmail 4.14.5 but not seeing the 'forever' progress bar any longer.

(Though still occasionally finding filtering has stopped working
(so have to do: akonadictl fsck
		akonadictl vacuum
		akonadictl restart

to get it going again...

I experience the same issue with latest kde on manjaro. kmail 5.4.3
Comment 6 Christian Muehlhaeuser 2017-04-02 09:51:55 UTC
Same here with 5.4.3 on Arch.
Comment 7 Nikolaos Kakouros 2017-05-24 16:09:58 UTC
I also encounter this with 5.5.1 on arch linux.
Comment 8 Markus Zimmermann 2017-05-30 07:22:13 UTC
I got the same problem since KDE4 multiple times every day. Now on Kmail 5.5.1 in openSUSE tumbleweed. Sometimes I can solve it with `akonadictl restart` sometimes I go in "offline mode" and back online. Anyway, I do not think that this has something to do with the distribution.

I guess this should no longer be in UNCONFIRMED, as it seems several users have seen this problem (myself included). The 'akonadictl restart' command does the trick with respect to getting stuff working again. I have attached the output of said command, just in case it reveals anything interesting

Using Kubuntu 17.04.

i have the same problem for a long time on kubuntu 16.04 (with kubuntu backports, currently kmail 5.2.3). the problem is occurring so often that i've added a starter for akonadiconsole to my task bar. restarting the mail filter agent in akonadiconsole usually solves it for the running session.

from my experience the hung progress bar is only a symptom for the mail filter agent not working, and that sometimes it also doesn't work even if the progress bar is not showing (so it looks ok, but it actually isn't). i notice that when all of a sudden mails remain in my inbox when they should be moved to another folder. then only after a restart of the mail filter agent and hitting <ctrl>+<j> (to apply all filters) they are moved correctly.

i experience this on three different machines.

I have the same problem in two Opensuse Tumbleweed:
kde applications 19.12
frameworks 5.67
qt 5.14

I have also witnessed the progressbar for the mail filter agent being stuck at 0% in the past, with no filters configured at all (the usual <unknown> filter was present, though).

While I sometimes experience the issue minutes after starting KMail from an empty config and with no account present at all (besides "Local Folders"), I have a hard time reproducing this reliably.

Can someone provide a minimal list of steps to reproduce this issue, starting from a clean config?
Comment 15 Txutxifel 2020-05-07 06:00:21 UTC
Hi,
I got 'Mail filter agent' with kmail starting automatically from the systray:
--> Activating the icon
--> Starting minimized in the tray.
--> with a autostart in .config/autostart.

I don't get it if I started it manually.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Can confirm, that's a great way to reproduce the issue.

In fact, it seems starting minimized and to systray is not even necessary, merely letting KMail get restarted upon session restore was enough for me. I wonder why that is: Perhaps due to increased system load?

I have been observing this for 5 years or so. It still happens with kmail 5.17.3. I do not use any filters in kmail but it makes the overall progress bar less useful. Just quitting kmail and starting it again makes the problem disappear for me but the issue reappears whenever kmail starts akonadi for itself.

This still happens for me with KMail version 5.22.1 (22.12.1). As mentioned in Comment 17, quitting and restarting KMail works around the problem
Comment 20 Laurent Montel 2023-01-24 06:27:20 UTC
I was able to reproduce it.
I will work on it soon
