as seen in bug #331114 when qt_no_glib=1 is globally defined (such that the helper ends up a unix dispatcher rather than a glib one - i.e. also no glib eventloop) it seems as if polkit or the helper is unable to do anything, indefinitely locking applications that are waiting for authentication.

as a general prupose safe guard it might be a good idea to have the helper throw message boxes at the user if it is started without a glib event dispatcher.
