While the system was starting up, Thunderbird email client restoring last session, I connected an external HDD  (USB, Toshiba Stor.e plus) and chose to open it with dolphin from the pop-up menu.

Thanks for the bug report. This looks like a crash in the KIO library that has been reported already.
