I use KDE Telepathy 0.7.80 on Kubuntu 14.04 and cannot find the way how to change contact name in contact list. Will be good to add option for rename contact in roster (set custom contact name) and change contact avatar in contact list window right-click menu on contact. Reproducible: Always
It's now better doable using KPeople, still not there yet though.

In article http://martys.typepad.com/blog/2014/03/kde-pim-sprint-and-kpeople.html this feature described as: - One of the most requested features in KDE Telepathy - Since we're now using KPeople to power our contact list, implementing this has become a lot easier. KDE Telepathy 0.9 is released, but I can't find any way to rename contact in it, is this feature implemented?
In a feature branch only at this moment. And unfinished.
I was wondering: You interact somehow with Akonadi, right? Could you find the JID in my addressbook and display the associated realname from that source?
As of the 15.04 version, there is no akonadi connection. In fact, there is even no akonadi. So this will have to wait till there is some PIM stack that can be used.
Is there any improvements for rename contacts in KDE SC 15.08 or maybe something planned for future versions?
Would it be possible to have a temporary solution with some kind of "merge" strategy? It's been more than 2 years now for (quote) "One of the most requested features in KDE Telepathy" and this is still not possible. I trust that the overall design and pairing with the PIM-stack is a really good idea in the long term, however it's blocking the development of important features, it seems.
Any news?
Dear user, unfortunately Telepathy is no longer maintained. Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
