I'm making panoramas, and I then use the «group images» fonction to group the resulting panorama with the images used for creating the pano. The smal icon on the gui shows that there are more pictures, and allows to group/ungroup them. However, If I edit the panorama (using the crop function for exemple), and save it, I then lost the «grouped images» icon. I do not know anymore how many images there is, and worse, I'm no more able to ungroup them. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Group images 2. Edit the «front image» and save it 3. Actual Results: No more «grouped images» icon Expected Results: Still «grouped images» icon
This file still valid with last digiKam 5.0.0 ? Gilles Caulier
Yes, I get the same problem with digikam 5.0.0, installed from Philips PPA
What's about this file using digiKam AppImage bundle 5.4.0 pre release given at this url : https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BzeiVr-byqt5Y0tIRWVWelRJenM Gilles Caulier
Hello Gilles, I just did the test with the 5.4.0 in the appimage (great tool !), but I get exactly the same result. Bug is still here.
You use versioning? I think yes. Actually normal behavior. Enable the option "Always show original images" in the settings for versioning. Maik
digiKam 7.0.0 stable release is now published: https://www.digikam.org/news/2020-07-19-7.0.0_release_announcement/ We need a fresh feedback on this file using this version. Best Regards Gilles Caulier
I still get the same problem with version 7.0 (appimage). To answer to previous comment, I do not save as new version, i make the modification, and save directly. Therefore, i'm expecting to still get the grouped image icon, and being able to access the grouped images. Now i do not have the icon, and i do not know how to display the grouped images...
Trying to find back my grouped images, i did the following: in the display menu, i selected «show all grouped item as open», it makes my grouped images appear. But if i unselect this choice, the images disappear, but I still have no more indication that they are group behind my panorama, and I do not have any means to make them appear, excepted through this menu. Its an annoying bug...
I cannot reproduce the problem if I edit and save the leading image, the group is retained. To make the images visible again, you can use the item repair function in the right mouse button menu in the album tree view. Maik

Hello Maik, thanks for your answer and test. I have used the «repair hidden items» tool (did not knew it before...) but it did not make any change. See the attached screen capture. The selected pano does not display the «grouped images» icon. Also, in the lower left corner, it is clearly writen that there are 4 hidden items. This is after using the «repair hidden items» tool ! Really strange. I'm really sorry, but I will be offline for at least 2 month, starting in a couple of hours, so I will not be able to follow on on this bug. Many thanks for your amazing work.
Hi Philippe and happy new year, Can you reproduce the problem with digiKam 7.5.0 pre-release AppImage bundle for Linux available here : https://files.kde.org/digikam/ Best regards GilleS Caulier
Hello Gilles, happy new year to you and all the digikam contributors too. I did the test with the latest build (https://files.kde.org/digikam/digiKam-7.5.0-20220110T154441-x86-64.appimage) but i still have the same problem. Strange. The behaviour described in my comment 8 is exactly the same, as the other comments. Best regards.
I hereby add some information on this bug as I have verified it too. The steps I did: - group two photos by filename (I group the JPG and the RAW file using the JPG as front photo) - open the front photo - edit it with Digikam's internal editor - Save changes (without creating a new version) What happens is: - a new "versioned" JPG file is created in the backing folder - this file is displayed in Digikam - this file is ungrouped - the original two files (JPG and RAW) are lost in Digikam (but still exist in the backing folder) - the number of hidden items in Digikam's album increases by two (the two files originally in the group, I assume) Nice thing is, if inside Digikam you open the file in GIMP, modify the file in GIMP and then overwrite the original file, then everything is fine and you get: - two files in the backing folder - two grouped files in Digikam Cheers, Gianluca
Created attachment 149385 [details] Screen Capture for Comment 14 Screen Capture for Comment 14. You can see that the two files P5300273.JPG and P5300273.ORF are missing from Digikam while the "versioned" file P5300273_v1.JPG, which Digikam created after internally editing the original P5300273.JPG, is displayed, altough ungrouped. The same happens for three more files/images in the folder, thus resulting in 6 hidden images in the bar below. After clicking "Repair hidden items", nothing changed. Additionally, moving all the files in a new folder does not change anything either.
But that would be expected behavior. You have created a derivative version of an original image and have enabled the option to hide the original image in the version settings. The original images (group) then disappear. Two options, you choose "as new version" when saving in the editor or you deactivate the hiding of original images in the version settings. Otherwise we would have to make an exception for groups when hiding them through versioning, but that could cause problems for other users who use versioning intensively. Maik

I activated Settings -> Configure Digikam -> Image Editor -> Versioning -> Always show original images and I got the original groups back. Thanks a lot for the support. I hope our conversation helps the OP too as his "problem" seems to be quite similar to mine, just with groups not filename-based, but manually-created ones.
Where can I find "repair hidden items"? I have an album with items that remain hidden even if I choose "Show Grouped Images" in the context menu. I can only make them visible with "View | Show All Grouped Items As Open".
The option to repair hidden items is located in the context menu of the right mouse button for the album in question in the album tree. Maik
Are we sure this is still to be considered a bug? As far as I have understood (and tested, actually): - You start with a set of grouped image - You edit one of them - Saving the edited image, if it is the first time you edit it, creates a new version anyway - When a new version is created, by default, the original group disappears (just like, in case of single image the original image disappears) - You can anyway restore the visibility of the original image(s) by disabling the option to hide the original images IMO, it's not a bug. Or am I getting it wrong?
(In reply to Maik Qualmann from comment #19) > The option to repair hidden items is located in the context menu of the > right mouse button for the album in question in the album tree. > > Maik Thanks! Rergards, Jan
Maik, In comment #20, the Q is: this entry can be considerate as a bug or as a feature". I think personalty that it's not a bug... Best Gilles
I would close this bug. As I pointed out in [comment #20], the original photos can be viewed by disabling the option to hide previous versions.
