kaddressbook shows the error Template not found, contact.htmlTemplate not found, contact_embedded.html in the right contact-preview pane (in two and three columns mode) instead of the contacts details. There are any further details why this happens. Via strace I found out, that kaddressbook looks for the mentioned files in ~/.kde4/share/apps/kaddressbook/viewertemplates/ After deleting that directory, the preview pane works fine again. Don't know why the directory was existing in the first place. For any less experienced user this might be an unresolvable problem. And also me it had cost some time. Please fix! Either apply user-defined templates only if the html-file really exists (and not just the directory). Of put more details on how to resolve the problem into the error message shown by kaddressbook
I can't reproduce. It was fixed in new version. Retest in new 4.12 or 4.13
Hi, I get the same error using Kontact in version 4.12 (kubuntu backports on 12.04LTS). I recentently upgraded to Kubuntu 14.04 beta: KAddressbook Version 4.13 beta2 Using KDE Development Platform 4.12.90 Still the same. When I delete ~/.kde/share/apps/kaddressbook/viewertemplates/ , an empty folder is recreated when starting Kontact. Then I started KAddressbook itself (not embedded in Kontact!) and... everything just works. It also creates the empty folder but the contact info, QR etc is shown. Tried Kontact again, same error.
Nevermind, must be somehow profile-related. I tried the same from a fresh useraccount and there everything works flawlessly.
I had the same issue. I copied the default files into my home-path and now it works propper! I did this on ubuntu-linux 14.04: cp /usr/share/kde4/apps/kaddressbook/viewertemplates/default/* ~/.kde/share/apps/kaddressbook/viewertemplates
Damn. after shutting kontact down and starting it again, I have the same issue... kontact 4.13 kde 4.13.0 Help would be great :)

(In reply to comment #6) > Why copy and not delete ?? Because that did not work either. If kaddressbook starts allone - everthing looks fine. But having it inside kontact I get the upper errormsg. I noticed that new keyboard-shortcuts I defined are gone after I restarted kontact. May be it is the same problem ... who knows. I wanted to give kontact a chance (I am using thunderbird right now.), but we will not getting friends it that won't work. ;) Marcel
Same issue here with fresh install of Kubuntu 14.04 Claudio
This is NOT fixed in 4.13.1. Please, reopen this bug.
It's a problem with Kontact. I think that Kontact breaks theme selection in KMail and KAddressBook. When both parts are started via Kontact they are using same theme name but from correct paths. In KMail I'm using theme from path "/usr/share/kde4/apps/messageviewer/themes/letterhead" and when I've made a symlink inside "/usr/share/kde4/apps/kaddressbook/viewertemplates" named "letterhead" pointing do "default" KAddressBook stopped complaining about missing template. I'm using KDE 4.13.1
So may be product for this issue should be changed from KAddressBook to Kontact?
I've added a new bug report: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=335118
REopen it. I close new one.
