(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: kmid Version: KDE 2.2.1 Severity: normal Installed from: Mandrake RPMs Compiler: Not Specified OS: Linux OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified I have plenty of karaoke files produced in microsoft-cp-1251 encoding. Kmid doesn't succeed to show those files correctly even if cp-1251 encoding is selected in font settings. I use the QT_XFT rendering mechanism. The lyrics when saved separately is displayed all right by Konqueror. (Submitted via bugs.kde.org)
I've already posted another bug report which explains why KMid cannot display non-ASCII characters at all. If you want a quick fix allowing to play Russian karaoke by KMid, please email me to thelivingone at mail ru.
One more: it's impossible to make support for Russian karaoke files without adding a manual selection of lyrics charset, because all Russian karaoke uses CP1251 while default Russian codepage for Linux is KOI8-R. For the moment, I use a dirty hack which converts all bytes in lyrics by recoding table assuming that lyrics are in CP1251 and system uses KOI8.
I've made up a Russian page containing the hack and instructions how to use it. http://sage.hellmachine.net/oss/KMid-Russian.php
The URL in my previous post is incorrect. Should be: http://sageshome.net/oss/KMid-Russian.php
Please see http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58083 for more information about the Russian lyrics problem.
It's the same bug. The other one is more generic. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 58083 ***
