There are actually two problems I have met. Suppose you have two sound cards installed. Problem 1. a. Right click tray icon for KMix b. choose "Select Master Channel" c. In Playback devices, change to sound card 2. d. In Capture devices, change to sound card 2. e. Press OK. Results: Only Capture devices is changed to sound card 2. Playback devices is still 1. It would be better if I can change the "Master Channel" for Capture and Playback at the same time. Problem 2: Master Channel doesn't saved across reboot. (Something capture is saved but playback is not). Reproducible: Always
Setting the master affects the volume keys and what is shown in the system tray. The system tray always shows ONE master channel, so what you try is impossible. The last master you set is the master channel. So simply only set the playback. channel. Please try that and report back here.
