Description Franklyn 2014-02-04 02:50:46 UTC
When trying to paint in the workspace area, the brush cursor doesn't show and no brush shows on the workspace. When the mouse/stylus is moved and clicked anywhere off the workspace area, the brush stroke shows up. I installed and reinstalled Krita but the bug is still there.

Reproducible: Always

Hi Franklyn,

Thanks for your report. You can resolve the issue following this post on the Krita forum:

http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=281&t=119552#p301628

Or you could test the current build that I made available last night -- that should have code that works around the versioning problem for the input shortcut definitions file. (In fact, I'd love a test of that in a real broken situation...) It's the 2.7.9.8 installer that you need to use.
Comment 2 Franklyn 2014-02-08 18:46:05 UTC
Thanks for the reply,

I installed the installer as you requested and it doesn't work at all. I
can't make one stroke on the canvas at all with the newer version. I
uninstalled the old version, just in case, and did a fresh installed with
it, still to no avail. Also, when I close out of the program, it gets stuck.

I also followed the instructions with the link you suggested and it didn't
work as well.

Just so you know, I'm working with Windows 8.1.

Thanks.

That almost sounds like you might have gotten the broken .2.7.9.8 installer -- is that the case?
Comment 4 Franklyn 2014-02-08 19:58:25 UTC
Yes, I think so, but I also have the 2.7.8.7 version as well. So, is there
a link to the one that works correctly?

Comment 6 Franklyn 2014-02-08 20:51:42 UTC
OK, I did something totally different and forgot to inform you.

When I uninstall/reinstall any version of Krita, the default of my settings
(i.e. 4000x4000, 300ppi) would always be there when I open Krita. That gave
me a clue as to Krita not removing all its files from the system when being
uninstalled.

So, besides Krita being installed in the Program Files directory for
Windows, its putting other files in the "Roaming" folder in Windows. So, I
just deleted all folders and files for Krita in the "Roaming" folder,
reinstalled Krita 2.7.9.10...AND IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM, lol. I can now see
what I am drawing/sketching/designing on the canvas.

Thanks for all your help on this. I guess when Krita were to get an update
or needs to be uninstalled, the Krita uninstaller needs get rid of the
files in the "Roaming" folder as well.

Thanks again,

Franklyn

Well, there is a twist here. The files in the Roaming folder are your
settings, your custom brushes and so on. So it's not right for the
installer to remove those if you uninstall krita -- you might just do that
before you install the new version, and you wouldn't forgive me for
deleting your brush sets, I guess!

Comment 8 Franklyn 2014-02-08 21:01:30 UTC
Lol,

It's cool, I just get them/install the brushes again. But, I didn't tell
Krita to install anything in the "Roaming" folder. Guess that's Windows for
ya (Ubuntu is looking good more and more now, lol).

Anyway, I'll keep you up-to-date on any other issues, but so far, this is
awesome sauce.

Thanks again.

Well, it's really not windows... It's that if you have anything personal
saved from krita, settings and so on, it goes there. If Krita had started
on Windows, it might have gone into the registry, otoh, lots of apps seem
to save stuff there.

Cool! And do keep in touch :-)

This will be fixed in the next build.
