When using a vncviewer (such as vnc4viewer or ssvnc) the speed is much better as compared to a krfb krnc connection (if compression options are tuned at least). However I observe one deficit as compared to a vncviewer to vncserver (such as vnc4server or x11vnc) connection: The screen updates are sometimes only transferred if the mouse cursor is moved or the screen motion is generated by e.g. scrolling the page in a browser. I see it mainly if I bring up a new window in kde applications such as krunner or often in chrome when changing to a different browser tab. Problems have also been described recently with seemingly similar configurations (vncviewer with krfb) in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=274187 However I do not really observe artifacts, just patches of the screen keep their old values such that parts of newly opened windows are not immediately visible. This changes when these windows are moved. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. start kde session and krfb on the server 2. connect using a vncviewer such as vnc4viewer or ssvnc 3. in the viewer, open chrome with two tabs showing two webpages 4. change the tabs 5. to transfer the screen updates scroll the webpages
I should mention that this behavior seems to be independent of the compression used (jpeg,Hextile,ZRLE and so on).
