Description Luis Silva 2014-01-16 13:16:36 UTC
Currently, the chat plasmoid can be added to a panel but not to the system tray. This plasmoid should be made embeddable in the system tray and there be visible only when there is an ongoing chat.

Reproducible: Always

AFAIK, it's not possible as being in the system tray forces you to be square.
I think it will mess with the popups too.

Could you try it for us?

Add this line to /usr/share/apps/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.ktp-chat/metadata.desktop
X-Plasma-NotificationArea=true

Then log out and back in again, and add it to the sys-tray.

Well, I have been trying that exact patch for a few weeks now. It works fine with respect to the popups but it has a few problems that you might know how to solve.
1. Photos of the contacts are not shown anymore.
2. Because, as you say, system tray icons are forced to be square, whenever I have more than one chat open, the chat icons become thinner and thinner.

The second problem is quite unsolvable, the systray will always force the square afaik. We would have to break the chat plasmoid down and put conversations there as separate widgets, not sure how much feasible that would be...

This isn't something we can do anything about, and it will be the case for Plasma Next as well.

Sorry.
