Description utf8snowman 2014-01-02 13:52:57 UTC
If a user's first and last name were written fully in unicode, then they cannot complete the registration process. The username has all unicode characters stripped, and the user will be unable to select a username as none is shown.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Register for a new account with first and last name fully in unicode
2. Click on confirmation email
3. You're unable to finish registration

> Register for a new account

For which service? Do you mean the wiki accounts?
Comment 2 utf8snowman 2014-01-03 02:36:44 UTC
Sorry for not being clear, I mean the KDE Identity accounts.
Comment 3 Christoph Feck 2014-01-03 12:21:10 UTC
Please use this page to report the problem: http://sysadmin.kde.org/tickets/

I wonder, though, if you can report issues there if you cannot register in the first place, so I am adding one of the KDE sysadmins to clarify.
Comment 4 Ben Cooksley 2014-01-03 22:01:33 UTC
You won't be able to file a ticket without an Identity account. We have plans to change how user registration works on Identity at some point, so that will alleviate this.

We do have a map of sorts for characters, which converts them into ASCII. It would appear that this map is incomplete unfortunately.

Which mail address were you trying to register from? Do you have a preferred username (ideally based on your actual name) - if you haven't yet been able to complete registration?

What is the status for this issue? Could it be resolved?
Comment 6 John Smith 2014-06-17 05:44:40 UTC
Hello,

I can confirm that a new user cannot complete registration at https://identity.kde.org.
When I click the link in the confirmation email it takes me to a page with a drop down box to select a user name that has no selections.

I'm running Mageia 4 64bit with KDE 4.11.4 and Chrome. Also tried in Firefox but get the same thing. I don't know the cause but it is impossible to register and apparently this is an old bug in the site. You cannot start over as it says the email address has been used.

Thank you,

John Smith

Your issue is different to this. Your problem is because all the generated usernames for your name combination (John Smith) are taken. We'll discuss how to sort out an account for you by private mail.

Recommending to close this issue and reassign to sysadmin

Hello,
I too can confirm that a new user cannot complete registration at https://identity.kde.org. When I click the link in the confirmation email it takes me to a page with a drop down box to select a user name that has no selections.

@Abhishek Kumar: Please send an email to sysadmin@kde.org regarding this if the issue is still apparent.
