In the navigation panel it is not clear where the header (the symbols for thumbnails, reviews, etc.) refer to, ie. which view change when clicking on them. Therefore a visual feedback between the header and the content (where you see the thumbnails, reviews, etc.) should be implemented. One way to do this would be tabs. For reference: Adobe Acrobat screenshot: https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=84308 Foxit Reader screenshot: https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=84309
If it's unclear, you can click on them, and then it'll be clear.
Would you please do some mockups (i.e. take a screenshot and paint over it) of how you would want this fixed? I'm not pretty sure what's your expectation here.
Created attachment 86556 [details] Self-drawn mockup of navigation panel improvement Well, I thought the foxit reader screenshot gave a good impression. But here you go (see attachment). It doesn't has to be any fancy stuff, basically there just has to be a visual clue that the left column (rectangle) interacts with the right one. Currently they are total discrete things in GUI.
Created attachment 86557 [details] Example of implementation in Calligra Sheet Just to add, this visual clue is IMHO common practice and can be found in various other KDE software. Attached is an example how it is done in Calligra Sheets.
Image from comment #3 seems acceptable, if someone wants to spend their time on that, we will review the code
Basically the complaint here is that the side tabs don't have a tab-like appearance.
Fixed in Okular 1.11.0 with https://invent.kde.org/graphics/okular/-/merge_requests/156
