Description illumilore 2013-12-23 23:47:38 UTC
when maximizing a window by either clicking the maximize button or moving it to the top of the screen, the contents will appear black and can only be shown again by minimizing and then restoring the window while maximized or by resizing.

Reproducible: Always

kubuntu 12.10 x64

nvidia?

Comment 2 illumilore 2013-12-24 03:21:46 UTC
No, that's a different one. That one says that it happens when size is increased but NOT maximized. This one is only when it is maximized.
Comment 3 Thomas Lübking 2013-12-24 06:10:22 UTC
and the claim changed and doesn't match the posted window properties...

a) is it an nvidia system?
b) attach the output of "qdbus org.kde.kwin /KWin supportInformation"
Comment 4 illumilore 2013-12-24 07:58:26 UTC
I never changed my claim, I said it was for maximized windows all along.

a) yes,

$ qdbus org.kde.kwin /KWin supportInformation
qdbus: could not find a Qt installation of ''

Not "you" - see bug #324823 comment #6

> a) yes
we'll consider it a dupe unless better knowledge then.
try toggling the maximize effect in "kcmshell4 kwincompositing" - if that impacts it, it's a dupe for sure.

> qdbus: could not find a Qt installation of ''
*sigh* - *ubuntu?
Install qtchooser or (globally) "export QT_SELECT=4"

export QT_SELECT=4
qdbus org.kde.kwin /KWin supportInformation

qtchooser was already installed and I get the same output, even with the export.

"*sigh* - *ubuntu?"

What do you have against ubuntu? And if not ubuntu, then what do you use/recommend?
Comment 7 Thomas Lübking 2013-12-25 11:27:49 UTC
check whether "qdbus" is installed (apparently it's now also in an extra package) - otherwise you'll have to hunt it on your disk (somewhere in /var or /usr/lib/qt4 maybe)

i will not judge or advertise in this context, but for a distro esp. addressing noobs, ubuntu should review their package management (broken fglrx/nvidia installations in multiple regards; trunking files on updates, causing random defaults; ...; and this issue is quite specific to them as well)
