On my laptop I have two image acquisition devices - web cam and scanner.  When acquireimages is launched the loading device list window shows up briefly but is quickly replaced with the scan window.  There is no way at this point to select which device to use for scans.

Seems to work okay on my desktop machine - so this seems related to some kind of netbook mode on my laptop.
