Description Dima Ryazanov 2013-12-06 20:42:06 UTC
It looks like there's a race condition when the column width gets calculated, and occasionally, long filenames get wrapped, making the file list look weird. Resizing the dialog box, choosing a different folder, etc. fixes the problem. It seems to only happen the first time I open the file dialog, and I could never reproduce it by changing directories while it's already open.

See the screenshot.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Labels often get wrapped when using smallest icon size, overlapping others.

It happens a lot while using the smallest icon size and browsing folders with many entries (such as /usr/share). The wrapping sometimes changes when moving the mouse over the entries repeatedly. Since there is only space for one line per entry, the labels will start overlapping others, rendering them unreadable.

Labels reserving space unwrapped but get redrawn wrapped.

When using a "Sorting" order other than "by name" (e.g. by date), it often happens that labels are drawn at full length at first, reserving so much space for the entry. Shortly after, they get (sometimes only partly) redrawn with a wrapped label, leaving the reserved space behind.

Very short labels occasionally getting wrapped too.

Occasional label wraps also occur on very short labels which would intuitively not be a candidate for any auto-wrap mechanism triggered by excess length.

Labels repeatedly toggle between wrapped/unwrapped on mouse hovering. (animated screencap)

When using the "Sorting" order "by name", labels will repeatedly change between being wrapped and not, making the displayed thumbnails jump around left to right.
This is in contrast to attachment 91776 [details] (sorting order not equivalent to "by name") where the labels stay wrapped.

I screen captured the issue. I hope Bugzilla is happy with webm files.

I have not seen this for a few years now. Is it still affecting anyone?
Comment 9 Nate Graham 2018-04-10 18:58:46 UTC
Can anyone still reproduce when using KDE Frameworks 5?
