Description Myriam Schweingruber 2013-11-29 22:04:30 UTC
Since the 2.8 release, cover fetching only works from last.fm

This is really unfortunate as last.fm is a bad resource for classical and vintage albums. Somehow it seems the cover search is disabled for all other resources (Google, Yahoo and Discogs)

I found the same in openSUSE 13.1 with the version 2.8.0-4.2.1 (x86_64) from the openSUSE-Repository and with the version 2.8.0-19.5 (x86_64) from the Packman-Repository

Same problem on Kubuntu 13.10
Comment 3 Andreas Roth 2014-01-05 15:37:24 UTC
I've the same issue on Kubuntu 13.10. I ran amarok with --debug and got the following output (with Google selected as cover source):
amarok: BEGIN: virtual void Playlist::PrettyListView::contextMenuEvent(QContextMenuEvent*)
amarok: BEGIN: void Playlist::ViewCommon::trackMenu(QWidget*, const QModelIndex*, const QPoint&)
amarok: [CoverFetcher] "Adding interactive cover fetch for: 'Supernatural' from Google"
amarok: BEGIN: CoverFoundDialog::CoverFoundDialog(CoverFetchUnit::Ptr, const Metadata&, QWidget*)
QPixmap::scaled: Pixmap is a null pixmap
QPixmap::scaled: Pixmap is a null pixmap
amarok: END__: CoverFoundDialog::CoverFoundDialog(CoverFetchUnit::Ptr, const Metadata&, QWidget*) [Took: 0.009s]
amarok: [CoverFetcher] "Queueing cover fetch query: 'Supernatural Carlos Santana' (page 0)"
amarok: END__: void Playlist::ViewCommon::trackMenu(QWidget*, const QModelIndex*, const QPoint&) [Took: 1.5s]
amarok: END__: virtual void Playlist::PrettyListView::contextMenuEvent(QContextMenuEvent*) [Took: 1.5s]
amarok: [CoverFetcher] "Queueing cover fetch query: 'Supernatural Carlos Santana' (page 0)"

If i press continue in the dialog the following lines appear:
amarok: [CoverFetcher] "Queueing cover fetch query: 'Supernatural Carlos Santana' (page 1)"
amarok: [CoverFetcher] "Queueing cover fetch query: 'Supernatural Carlos Santana' (page 2)"
amarok: [CoverFetcher] "Queueing cover fetch query: 'Supernatural Carlos Santana' (page 3)"
amarok: [CoverFetcher] "Queueing cover fetch query: 'Supernatural Carlos Santana' (page 4)"
amarok: [CoverFetcher] "Queueing cover fetch query: 'Supernatural Carlos Santana' (page 5)"
amarok: [CoverFetcher] "Queueing cover fetch query: 'Supernatural Carlos Santana' (page 6)"
It seems that somehow the query never completes and so no covers.

I have the same problem as reported. I tried Amarok under (K)Ubuntu 13.10 - cover fetching only worked from last.fm under KDE as well as under Unity. I would love cover fetching from Google to work again as the covers from last.fm are low resolution and often missing.

If I can help by providing any information please let me know.

Can confirm. Having the same issue.

I need to add that no other resources works apart from last.fm. So it's not only Google as I stated above, Yahoo and Discogs are concerned too. I use KDE 4.12 and Amarok 2.8 from the Kubuntu Backports-PPA (ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports) on Kubuntu 13.10 (saucy).

I *think* it - google retrieval - was working with 2.8 before I upgraded kubuntu to 13.10 (I did the 2.8 update via ppa)

Can confirm on Kubuntu 14.04, Amarok 2.8.0. All other cover retrieval services (Google etc.) used to work.

Folks, really, there is no need to confirm over and over again: the source pages have changed, there is no way this can still work, and the code needs to be adapted. This happens quite frequently as the image providers don't want anyone to grab pictures.

So please, let's keep the noise down on a report that is confirmed, and please everybody stop confirming this :)

Yahoo Boss API is now pay to use. It has been removed from current git.

The Discogs api we use (version 1) was disabled in January of 2012. There is a new api detailed on their site that will need to be swapped to. Shouldn't be too hard to do, and would be a good opportunity for someone new to get involved in Amarok development. Check in on #amarok if you are interested/for more details

Not sure what's going on with the google one. We just scrape the html version, and I suspect the google side has changed signifigantly since it was implemented a few years ago. patches welcome!

If it helps, the Google fetcher has been modified in Audex and that now works correctly.
Comment 15 Myriam Schweingruber 2015-02-07 10:08:17 UTC
Technically not a regression, as the change was in the external sources.
