I have a dual monitor setup (two different monitors) and each time I start a new KDE session, the settings are forgotten and only one monitor is running fine (Dell via DVI), the other is put in power saving mode (initially they were cloned). I have seen the configuration file saved in .kde/share/apps/kscreen/704b7e89bbb2dbce07c04def5fa00275 and it seems ok. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Starts the KDE session. 2. Configure the dual monitor setup 3. Close the session. 4. Starts the KDE session again and the settings are lost. Actual Results: The settings are lost and I must configure it again. I have the same problem in Manjaro Linux running KDE 4.14.5. I have a Dell E7440 notebook connected to a Dell docking station, where two monitor are connected through a DVI and a DisplayPort cables. Every time a close the KDE session the two external monitors are disabled, the resolution settings are lost and also the settings regarding the positions of the screen. I was also wondering if this bug may be due to the fact that both the KCM modules kcmrandrrc and kcm_kscreen are installed in the system so that they may interfere to each other settings. Should they both have to be installed? Is it possible to remove kcmrandrrc (which I think is superseded by kcm_kscreen)?
They can be installed at the same time, but they should not be enabled both. You can disable the krandr module in System Settings -> Startup and Shutdown -> Service Manager. At least in Fedora, we handled this by shipping a kconf_update script with Fedora that automatically migrated users from krandr to KScreen. Regarding the bug itself, could someone please try to reproduce this on latest release (part of Plasma 5.2.1)?
Ok thanks for the hint. Indeed the service 'Display management change monitor' (which I assume to be KRandr) is disabled whilst 'KScreen 2' is active.
