Description zbrufan813 2013-11-15 08:04:19 UTC
Adding facial recognition capabilities would be helpful for those with large image collections as well as professional photographerss. I know digikam has face recognition, but it is not very good. It needs to work like picasa, but with better results. I used picassa for a while when I had windows, but the accuracy was not good. I had close to 50,000 pictures and picassa was only able to detect faces on about 5 or 6000 of the photos. I didn't scan my whole collection with digicam but it was able to detect faces on close to 95%, but the sorting and naming process is too daunting. Picass was able to suggest a few names after some input is made, but digicam doesn't make suggestions.

Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce

Do you mean the face recognition in digiKam is not very good, or do you mean digiKam is (generally) not very good compared to Gwenview?

_If_ face recognition would be added to Gwenview, I am pretty sure it will use the same face detection library (libkface) that is developed by digiKam developers.

In other words, you should report to digiKam developers what is "not very good".
