Description Till Schäfer 2013-11-08 16:08:50 UTC
In the location bar the trash is called "Mülleimer" in the German localization. However, when opening the context menu there is an entry "Papierkorb leeren" (empty trash). It should be called "Mülleimer leeren" instead since the term "Mülleimer" is also used in other places (such as the widget)

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Till Schäfer 2013-11-08 16:15:36 UTC
i noticed that the kcm module is also calles "Papierkorb". Therefore this inconsistent naming is not limited to dolphin alone. It should be harmonized over all placed of the kde sc.

kde411@parodia:~/svn$ wcgrep Mülleimer l10n-kde4/de/messages/
kde411@parodia:~/svn$
-> No „Mülleimer“ in the german translation in 4.11, see also the relevant discussion for the change from Mülleimer to Papierkorb on the german mailing list:

You are hit by the famous and notorious OTT (One Time Translation) bug in KDE, nothing the german translation team can change.

An explanation of an similar OTT bug you find in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=320222 Comment #4 + #6

This bug is invalid for i18n/de and for i18n in general

@Frank: what/who is the correct Component/Assignee for OTT's ?
Comment 3 Frank Reininghaus 2013-11-10 21:09:33 UTC
Thanks Burkhard!

If I understand you correctly, the problem is that that the translation of "Empty trash" in the context menu that the user sees is incorrect because the translation is only loaded once on the user's system, and then stored somewhere in the home directory, right? The code for that action looks like this:

void DolphinContextMenu::openTrashContextMenu()
{
    Q_ASSERT(m_context & TrashContext);

    QAction* emptyTrashAction = new QAction(KIcon("trash-empty"), i18nc("@action:inmenu", "Empty Trash"), this);

Is there anything wrong with this? If yes, Dolphin is the correct product. If not, then I don't know - I'm not familiar with the internals of the i18n system, and therefore, I don't know where the code that is responsible for the "one time translation" lives.

In the screenshot you see the OTT's in the context menu of „Trash“ in Dolphins Places, same problem in the context menu of „Home“, „Network“ and „Root“.

No, this is properly translated and no OTT, see screenshot.

Thanks Burkhard. I understand that this is a duplicate of bug 319282 then? I've just attached a patch to that report, and I'd appreciate any testing (requires to clean the bookmarks.xml file once, unfortunately).
Comment 7 Burkhard Lück 2013-11-12 15:30:20 UTC
Yes a duplicate of bug 319282.

With the patch from 319282 AND a bookmarks.xml with untranslated system items i. e. in locale en_US I can change the translation of these items and the new translations appear in the Places panel.
