- What I was doing when the application crashed:

selected "oxygen-transparent" in window decorations and went on to select the same for widget style. before i could select it , system settings crashed.

issue occurred due to improper installation of - oxygen-transparent style.
issue cause -  ./oxygen-setup.pl --branch master

resolved it by specifying appropriate branch. that is specific to kde version installed on my machine.
./oxygen-setup.pl --branch KDE/4.10
