Description Little Toucan 2013-09-23 13:59:47 UTC
Not able to launch Suduku 25X25 freezes up. Have to close game and get message "ksuduku is not responding." While launching 16X16 games get same response but after several times it will launch a game.
This is version .5 Development Platform 4.7.4

Could you please try a newer KDE version, such as KDE 4.10.5 or KDE 4.11?

I've looked for newer versions, I must be missing something. Would you be so kind as to provide a link or a string so I can download newer version from terminal?

As Christoph says, a more recent KDE version than 4.7 is the way to go.

All versions of KSudoku since KDE 4.7 have the 1.x versions of KSudoku, in which the solver and puzzle generator were completely re-written, to overcome several problems, including this one. The main problem solved was to make the difficulty selection work properly and not give you mainly Easy level, regardless of the setting chosen. Version 0.5 of KSudoku was (and still is) unmaintained (i.e. the author was and is no longer around), so I cannot help you with that version.

If you are in a position to upgrade your KDE installation, please do so.

Is there a KSudoku version that is Debian? Tar.xz does not install on my system.

KDE desktop, KDE software and KDE Games are distributed by all leading Linux distributors, including Debian, so you should be able to find all versions of KSudoku in Debian. I have not heard of Mint before, so I do not know about that. There is a chance that KSudoku 1.0 might work with your KDE 4.7 system, IF (big if) Debian will let you try. KSudoku 1.0 was released with KDE 4.8, but the KSudoku 1.0 package might be binary-compatible with KDE 4.7. Later (binary) packages of KSudoku will probably not be compatible. There have been changes to the KDE Games library.

Otherwise, the only things to try are moving to a newer version of KDE desktop and getting access to KSudoku 1.x automatically or finding out how to build KSudoku 1.0 from source code.

Thank you Ian, I finally have a working KSudoku!
