Some icons aren't displayed properly. They are very mushy, as if scaled up from a very small size. So far I could find that the following icons are affected: - The "wrench and gear" icon, found at the bottom of System Settings, used for "Startup and Shutdown" - The "Copy" icon in the Kate/Kwrite toolbar to copy text to the clipboard Packages are 4.11.1 from Kubuntu backports for the current Kubuntu 13.04. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Open applications that show the icons mentioned above. Actual Results: Icons are very mushy, as if scaled up from a very small size. Expected Results: Icons should be displayed properly for all sizes.
Could you attach some screenshots ?
Sure, here you go: http://imgbox.com/g/l1PlHXOYwK First broken icon: http://imgbox.com/acuPSh4k Open System Settings, under System Management > Startup and Shutdown - the rightmost icon (besides, "User management" should be translated to "Benutzerverwaltung") Second broken icon: http://imgbox.com/acycWPdE Open Kwrite or Kate, look at the toolbar icon for "Copy". Third broken icon: http://imgbox.com/adkUeUVX Right-click on the cashew in the taskbar and select "Add widgets". Note the icon for "Monitor files" (besides, it's the wrong icon anyway, I doubt it should be some generic icon)
Regarding the fileWatcher applet: the desktop file specifies Icon=application-octet-stream so it is indeed intended to be a generic file type icon. Regarding the blurry appearance, could you please check, which sizes of the the icons you have installed, e.g. by using these in a Konsole window: find /usr/share/icons/oxygen | grep application-octet-stream find /usr/share/icons/oxygen | grep edit-copy find /usr/share/icons/oxygen | grep preferences-other
find /usr/share/icons/oxygen | grep application-octet-stream (it's just a link to application-x-object) /usr/share/icons/oxygen/48x48/mimetypes/application-octet-stream.png /usr/share/icons/oxygen/32x32/mimetypes/application-octet-stream.png /usr/share/icons/oxygen/64x64/mimetypes/application-octet-stream.png /usr/share/icons/oxygen/22x22/mimetypes/application-octet-stream.png /usr/share/icons/oxygen/128x128/mimetypes/application-octet-stream.png /usr/share/icons/oxygen/16x16/mimetypes/application-octet-stream.png /usr/share/icons/oxygen/256x256/mimetypes/application-octet-stream.png find /usr/share/icons/oxygen | grep edit-copy /usr/share/icons/oxygen/48x48/actions/edit-copy.png /usr/share/icons/oxygen/32x32/actions/edit-copy.png /usr/share/icons/oxygen/22x22/actions/edit-copy.png /usr/share/icons/oxygen/16x16/actions/edit-copy.png find /usr/share/icons/oxygen | grep preferences-other /usr/share/icons/oxygen/48x48/categories/preferences-other.png /usr/share/icons/oxygen/32x32/categories/preferences-other.png /usr/share/icons/oxygen/64x64/categories/preferences-other.png /usr/share/icons/oxygen/22x22/categories/preferences-other.png /usr/share/icons/oxygen/128x128/categories/preferences-other.png /usr/share/icons/oxygen/16x16/categories/preferences-other.png /usr/share/icons/oxygen/256x256/categories/preferences-other.png The edit-copy icon is missing for sizes of 64x64 and up, but the others are there. Took a look at the icons themselves, and they look normal in Dolphin. I'll delete the icon cache (icon-theme.cache) in /usr/share/icons/oxygen/ - perhaps it did get messed up somehow.
Deleted icon-theme.cache and rebooted (just in case.) All three icons are still as blurry as before, and the cache file is still gone (it didn't get regenerated.)
wen ever app developers use action icons that were made only for toolbars as mimetypes or app icons things fail like this. there is a reson the icons ae divided into several types of icons each in theyir subfolder.
the other ones most of them have sizes up to 256x256 soo its not an icon theme bug
> wen ever app developers use action icons that were made only for toolbars as mimetypes or app icons things fail like this. That's clearly not the case here. In all three cases, sufficiently sized icons are available, but for some reason, they aren't used. Instead, much too small sizes are used and then upscaled, making the icons look just plain awful.
To really delete the icon cache, please delete /var/tmp/kdecache-USER/icon-cache.kcache, then restart the session.
And please restore the files you deleted in /usr by re-installing oxygen-icons packages, those files are not recreated on KDE start.
