Having to reset the relative positions of displays every time you turn them on or off makes no sense. There should be a mechanism for remembering. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Using a computer connected to two displays, run "kcmshell4 kscreen". 2. Position the screens as you like, then turn off the display you don't need. 3. Press OK (or apply then close). 4. Run "kcmshell4 kscreen" again. Actual Results: Turned-off display reverts to the top right corner, forcing the user to reposition it all over again. Expected Results: Relative position of all screens should be remembered, regardless of if they're on or off. Allowing the user to position a display whose position won't be remembered is a tease.
Created attachment 82337 [details] 3 monitors setup
Agreed, affects me too. This is especially annoying in my 3 monitor setup - see attached screenshot. I have 2 monitors always on (VGA1 and HDMI1), and a third one (HDMI3) - placed on the left side of my other 2 monitors that I only use sometimes. When I want to re-enable this third monitor in KScreen, it is placed on the top right corner. Due to the fact that moving a monitor beyond the left border of the kscreen window is not possible, to simply re-enable this monitor I have to do the following steps: * Resize the KScreen window so that it can hold the 3 monitors * Move HDMI1 to the right border * Move the VGA1 next to the HDMI1 *Move the HDMI3 to the left side *Enable the HDMI3 monitor This means 5 steps to simply re-enable my third monitor... So keeping disabled monitors position would be really helpful here, and maybe also scaling the monitors so that they fit in the window. Hope you understand my desription of the problem, thanks
I don't plan supporting this. Instead (to fix your usecase properly) we will support something called profiles. Instead of heaving to reposition/toggle the screens when you want to switch between 2 screens and 3 screens setup, you will just switch between saved profiles in a combo box.
Some heuristic can be implemented to try to reposition like before. There is some function stubs in the code not yet complete.
Thank you for the bug report. Unfortunately we were not able to get to it yet. Can we ask you to please check if this is still an issue with Plasma 5.25 or 5.26? If it is, please change the status to CONFIRMED when replying. If not, or if you can't because you no longer use this setup, you can change the status to RESOLVED WORKSFORME. Thanks a lot!
