The content pane (left pane) will not expand when you click on it ,neither the (+) sign appears,
until you click on  the (Contents) link below in the (right pane).
This happens to some entries ,Like this ones:

-Plasma Manual
-Tutorials -> Quickstart Guide
-The KDE FAQ

Example of usage:
------------------------
click on Plasma Manual -> then click on Introduction on the right pane -> then click on the 
Contents Link below
you will notice that the (Plasma Manual) link on the left pane has expanded :)

This works here with Kubuntu 12.04 with kde 4.11

You forgot to add the info about your kde version.

The kde helpsystem does not have top level items "Tutorials -> Quickstart Guide" or 
"The KDE FAQ" since a long time, your kde version seems to be really old.

Is the a duplicate of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=276764 or https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=179427 ?
