Description Volker Kuhlmann 2013-08-28 22:37:35 UTC
Email search gives no results. Select email, press "s", search in that folder, complete message, enter something, no results.

Nepomuk is running (systemsettings → service manager → nepomuk search module).
Semantic desktop search is enabled (systemsettings → desktop search, tick enable semantic desktop, tick enable email indexer)
I enabled the file indexer too and configured it to index all the mail folders - no difference.

The "akonadi nepomuk feeder" is enabled, running, and indexing of all email is completed. (akonadiconsole, agents). Deleting the feeder, exiting kmail, akonadictl stop, wait for stopped, restarting kmail - akonadi nepomuk feeder agent re-indexes mail, wait for that to finish.

Still zero search results.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start nepomuk and tick autostart (systemsettings → service manager → nepomuk search module).
2. Enable desktop search (systemsettings → desktop search, tick enable semantic desktop, tick enable email indexer)
3. Check email indexing is finished (akonadiconsole, agents, akonadi nepomuk feeder).
4. select an email, press "s", enter some search terms.
Actual Results:
Zero search results.

Expected Results:
Those emails found that I know exist.

The email is in mixedmaildir resources, kmail folder indexing is complete and emails are shown by kmail.
The quick search (input field abve the msg index) finds something, but I am not seeing the relationship between what is found and the search word(s).

I am having the same problem with Mageia 3, KDE 4.10, Kmail 4.10.5 and IMAP folders.

Desktop Search has "Enable Nepomuk Semantic Desktop" and "Enable Email Indexer" ticked.

nepomukpimindexerutility shows "[IndexingLevel: 3]" for this folder.
If I right-click on the folder and select "Index" I get the message:

nepomukpimindexerutility(16793) FeederPluginloader::feederPluginsForMimeType: No feeder for type "inode/directory" found

virtuoso-t runs for a few seconds and I get: "Indexing complete. Time elapsed(ms): 13901"

If I right-click on the folder in kmail and select Folder Properties -> Maintenance
the Indexing box is ticked and says: "Folder was indexed: Thurdsay 16 Jan 2014".
I can click on "Force Reindexing" and virtuoso-t runs again for a while.

Despite all this, when I search for a message (using From, Subject or Complete Message),
I get no results: even for the message which is currently selected in the folder!

~/.kde4/share/apps/nepomuk/repository/main/data/virtuosobackend contains 85MB of database files:
so why does search return no results? If I run "strings" on the file soprano-virtuoso.db
int that directory I can actually see the contents of the message I am searching for!

But search still returns no results.

Hi Volker and Martin. Thank you for reporting your issue and confirming it. It is related to a version of KMail that uses Nepomuk for search. However KMail as of KDEPIM 4.14 uses Baloo instead. Can you still reproduce the issue with KMail from KDEPIM 4.14 and Akonadi 1.13? If so, please reconfirm how you reproduce it.

That said, I can seem to reproduce this partially. I can search mail in quick search and with Alt+F2 krunner just fine, but in the search window I got zero results initially. But after I set it to search in all folders once and repeated the search several times I see search results.

But then I get results from all folders even when I just selected one folder – which is a different bug which I reported at:

Bug 346100 - search window displays results from all folders even when I tell it to search in just one

So please, check whether you do not get *any* search results at all and report your finding in this bug report. Also if you want, please check my new finding in bug 356100 and report what you find there. Thank you, Martin
