Description Volker Kuhlmann 2013-08-27 22:08:50 UTC
Apper shows updates for installed packages are available, but after running yast online update nothing is there to be installed.
It turns out that apper flags every minute rpm version change as update, even if someone's home project got recompiled without change.
I don't need to install unchanged (but recompiled) rpms, and don't want to waste my bandwidth and disk space on such, but apper keeps on annoying me every morning about this. This makes apper less than useful as a warning tool for important security updates because it can't distinguish them from drivel, instead becoming the constant morning red light that might as well be turned off because it serves no useful purpose.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Configure some home projects (or e.g. the security repo).
2.
3.
Actual Results:
Apper warns each morning about available updates for rpms that have not been updated.

Expected Results:
Warnings about important updates only, not unchanged rpms.

This today happens for me for the jailkit rpm (security repo) and gnuradio rpms (home:dl8fcl repo). I am interested to be told if newer versions areavailable, I am definitely not interested to be alerted whenever those get recompiled.

Please report a bug against your PackageKit backend on your distribution bug tracker.
Apper has nothing to do with what your backend thinks is an update.

Thanks Daniel, will do. It's always a bit tricky to see which parts are doing what, there's a gazillion of them.
