for looooooooooooong threads it is annoying to scroll down to respond to a comment

Reproducible: Always

Novell's Bugzilla did this several years back, but without separately retaining also the base URL. I filed https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=326809 as a result. If it has to be one or the other, the way it is now is much better. Scrolling a web page I don't mind. Bloating my browser history with multiple links to the same bug I mind very very much.

The Novell bug report you pointed to is inaccessible to me.
For text emails, where would you prefer to put the comment links?
As for HTML formatted mails, we can make the "Comment #1" text a link I guess.

Any comments?

This kind of thing is why openSUSE needs its own separate bug tracker, but because openSUSE and SLED and SLES bugs are largely shared, such a divorce seems unlikely to happen. I filed that because Novell's bugzilla was doing what this bug requests.

As a result of the bug referred to in comment 1, Novell bugmail was changed about 3 weeks after filing to start with the bug's base URL, then repeat it two lines below with the new comment reference appended, making both camps happy via a mere template edit.

> Any comments?

SeaMonkey and Thunderbird automatically convert things that begin with http:// or https:// or ftp:// or www. in a plain text email into a clickable link. Likely other email agents do the same.
